To help buyers evaluate truck scales, the Weights and Measures agencies test a scale to it’s rated CLC (Concentrated Load Capacity). This is the amount of weight which the manufacturer has determined can be placed in an area four feet long across the width of the platform without deflection.
The CLC is meant to simulate a dual axle load on four foot centers. The CLC of standard Mid America Scale is 35 Tons, with 50 Ton and 75 Ton CLC scales optional. The CLC of a standard Active Scale is 40 Tons (HD Portable is 50 Tons). Typical CLCs of other manufacturers range from 25 Tons to 40 Tons. Generally speaking, the higher the CLC, the longer the scale will last.
